Maths Mansion is very direct
maths teaching and is fun, engaging and highly entertaining. It
is set in a gothic mansion where ten contestants have to answer
maths questions successfully in order to escape. The show is overseen
by the Bad Man, the cheerfully alarming programme host, who challenges
the contestants (and the viewers) to try their maths skills in solving
imaginative maths problems and puzzles. Further useful complications
come from the Maths Monsters, animated mathematical beings such
as the Multiplier, a cross between Swiss Army knife, an octopus
and Woody Allen. Meanwhile, out in the real world, unsuspecting
members of the public have a chance to show how well they can handle
maths when it comes up to them in the street and puts them on the
spot. This series is full of direct maths teaching - but you may
enjoy it too much to notice.
